A new student-run history magazine, The Herodotian, is looking for contributors. This term’s theme is New Beginnings.

Theatre Workshop: Until the Lions
Applications are open for a week-long workshop with award-winning actor, director and playwright Corinne Jaber, exploring Karthika Nair’s Until the Lions. Open to all students, no prior theatre experience required.

Join Sarah Jones for a one-off Research & Development session
Internationally acclaimed comedian and writer, Sarah Jones, is inviting students to take part in a focused research and development session for her new show, America, Who Hurt You? A unique chance to explore her creative process and share reflections.
When: Friday 17 October 2025, 6:00 – 7:00
Where: Schwarzman Centre
Who: Open to students from any discipline – no performance experience required.
To take part: Email elizabeth.lawal@humanities.ox.ac.uk with a short paragraph (3-5 sentences) about your interest and any access requirements by 10 October. Places are limited.
Oxford Nightline Volunteering
Oxford Nightline is a confidential listening, support, and information service run by students, for students. They are currently recruiting new volunteers for two roles:
- Nightline volunteers, who provide listening and support through calls and messages. Every term a training course is run for those who wish to join.
- Publicity, Fundraising and Outreach (PFO) volunteers, who help raise awareness of Nightline’s services across colleges and departments.
To apply to become a Nightline volunteer, complete a training form, or contact training@oxfordnightline.org for more information.

The Queen’s Translation Exchange is inviting applications for its Creative Translation Ambassadors programme. Ambassadors work with professional translators to lead creative translation workshops in local state schools and support wider outreach activities.
The scheme is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students in any subject – you just need to know a language other than English (fluency not required).
Apply by 5 pm, Friday 31 October 2025 via the online application form.

LGBTQ+ Working Group
The History Faculty’s LGBTQ+ Working Group, chaired by Prof. Matt Cook, is seeking two undergraduate representatives. The group meets once a term (Friday of Week 4) to discuss LGBTQ+ teaching, welfare, recruitment and events, and feeds into the Faculty’s Equality and Diversity Committee via the chair.
Students interested in joining are invited to send a brief statement (no more than 200 words) to Prof. Matt Cook (matthew.cook@mansfield.ox.ac.uk) by Friday 24th October, outlining why they would like to join and what they feel they can contribute.
Student Listening Event: Race Equality Working Group
The Race Equality Working Group (REWG) brings together students, academic and professional staff to identify barriers, co-design solutions, and track progress on race equality (curriculum, admissions, recruitment and progression, everyday climate, events/communications).

Call for Proposals: International Undergraduate History Conference Series
The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) History Student Society invites proposals for a virtual undergraduate conference on 17-18th April 2026. The top four presentations will share $500 in awards. Open to undergraduates worldwide (2025 graduates also welcome if not enrolled in graduate study).
Submit by: Monday 12th January 2026 with a 150-word abstract, 1-page CV, and brief bio.

- The ballot for Further Subjects is now open to all second-year History and Joint School students, and third-year HECO and HENG students. The ballot will close at 12 noon on Friday 31st October (Week 3). Students can access the form here: Further Subject Ballot 2025-26. Please ensure you review the available options and requirements carefully before submitting your choices.

Entrepreneurship and the Humanities - Oxford Edge
What happens when entrepreneurial thinking meets the Humanities? This new series, Humanities Beyond Academia, explores how innovation and enterprise can create real-world impact across the humanities. Led by Dr. Sylvia Alvares-Correa at Oxford Edge and delivered in collaboration with Ertugen House and TORCH, the series invites students and early career researchers to discover how creative ideas and critical inquiry can be transformed into ventures that make a difference.
